This soul’s purpose tarot spread is a perfect starting point for anybody wondering why they have been put on this earth.
Have you ever asked yourself any of the following questions?
- What is my calling?
- Do I even have a calling?
- Why do I feel empty?
- What will give my life meaning?
- How can I feel fulfilled?
- What is my passion?
If so, bust out your tarot cards and let’s try to discover some answers! Here is my basic Soul’s Purpose Tarot Spread.
(Don’t have a deck yet? Here are some tips on choosing the perfect beginner’s tarot deck.)
What is a soul’s purpose?
A soul’s purpose is what gives your life meaning, fulfillment, joy, and a sense of connection and rightness in the world. People have called it different things throughout history. Destiny, calling, vocation, life’s work, flow, raison d’etre, your North Star. All these terms basically describe the same thing.
You know you have landed upon your soul’s purpose if it excites and motivates you. If you could talk about it forever, completely lose track of time while absorbed in it, and can’t imagine your life without it (whatever it is), it is probably pointing you toward your soul’s purpose.
Your soul’s purpose is what keeps you going and makes life worth living.
One caveat: It’s not always a clear-cut answer.
I’m sure that somewhere, some lucky person’s soul purpose is “horse veterinarian.” Period, the end.
But if I’m being honest, even that person’s soul purpose is probably something more broad, like “working with and healing animals” or “helping others commune with and bond with natural creatures,” both of which categories a horse veterinarian could certainly fall under.
My soul’s purpose, I have come to learn, is to creatively share my knowledge and passions with others. Yup, that’s about as specific as I’ve gotten! And that’s not a bad thing necessarily. For me, that means being an English professor. It means being a writer, a blogger, and so many other things I probably haven’t even thought of yet! But I have come to learn that as long as I am creatively expressing what I am learning and teaching or guiding others in some way, I feel fulfilled and aligned with my soul’s purpose.
So please don’t stress out about trying to find your “one thing” in a neat little package. I know that can be a pretty controversial thing to say in some circles. There are some (parents, life coaches, therapists, artists, authors) who swear up and down that everybody has one ultimate passion and calling and it is our responsibility to find it or else we will have wasted our time on this planet. I’m not sure if I agree with that.
In fact, I know I said earlier that I have finally settled upon my soul’s purpose, but that’s just the one I’m being called to now. It may change or I may have others. Or not. Who knows? I certainly don’t.
So your soul’s purpose may not be a neatly packaged two-word deal, and you may have more than one!
